2023 update

last updated January 1st, 2023

Please do not purchase this as a stand-alone module. Instead, go to the new "Issues Bundle" link to access the full Issues series. Thank you.

What are the Issues in Hospital-based Practice Webinar Series and its Online Resource?

These are zoom-based interviews and webinar sessions with hospital and healthcare system-based acupuncturist colleagues. Each session reviews an identified issue in the healthcare system setting, focusing on the acupuncturist community. However, as you can see in our current issues list, these issues are common for most providers in the healthcare system-based integrative health community.

Welcome to the 2023 module for the Hospital Handbook Project (HHP)'s Issues in Hospital-based Practice Webinar Series.

I recommend subscribing to this through the "bundle" page. This course/module is only the 2023 module. There are two "bundle" options.

Option 1: The "Issues in HP Webinar Series Bundle"on the HHP's Teachable platform

Option 1 is the new "Issues in Hospital-based Practice Webinar Series Bundle." This is new as of 2023. Teachable has changed the tech on how modules/courses are bundled, so the previous "Issues" bundle is obsolete. Instead, please switch over to the new "Issues...Webinar Series Bundle." This bundle includes

  1. links to join scheduled Issues webinar sessions in 2023 and
  2. access to Issues modules for years 2020, 2021, and 2022.

Who can join option 1?

  • Anyone who wants to join and support the work of the HHP's webinar series.

Option 2 for those already working in a healthcare system: HHP's Tier 2 Community Discussion Platform subscription

Option 2 is the "Tier 2 platform subscription." This is currently open to current healthcare system-based LAc clinicians, leads, and program managers/directors. To subscribe to HHP's Tier 2 discussion platform, go to our Mighty Networks site and click on the "Tier 2 subscription" option. Tier 2 subscription includes access to the Tier 2 "Big Bundle" of resources that are hosted on this Teachable platform. To learn more about what is included in Tier 2, go to its landing page.

Who can join option 2?

  • Tier 2 platform subscription is open to current healthcare system-based LAc clinicians, leads, and program managers/directors.

What is the HHP's Issues in Hospital-based Practice Webinar Series?

These are zoom-based interviews and webinar sessions with hospital and healthcare system-based acupuncturist colleagues. Each session reviews an identified issue in the healthcare system setting, focusing on the acupuncturist community. However, as you can see in our current issues list, these issues are common for most providers in the healthcare system-based integrative health community.

The Issues webinar series has evolved based on community feedback over the years. This is a video recorded in 2017 describing what I have been trying to create with the webinar series.

What is the Hospital Handbook Project (HHP) for Acupuncturists and Their Hospital Sponsors?

HHP is the nonprofit collaborative learning network for healthcare system-based LAcs and program managers. We are the home of the healthcare system-based acupuncturist community network. Learn more about the HHP at our home page. Watch a short 3-minute overview video of what the HHP is here. Or watch our current "What is the HHP?" playlist on YouTube here.

Last year, on January 22nd, 2022, The Hospital Handbook Project (HHP) became a program (through a fiscal A sponsorship) of a 501c3 nonprofit organization, Free Range Health. The Hospital Handbook Project for Acupuncturists and Their Hospital Sponsors is a program of Free Range Health®, a 501(c)(3) public charity. All or part of your donation may be tax-deductible as a charitable contribution. Please consult with your tax advisor. Federal Tax ID # 45-4395933.

As we are a nonprofit community program, we can accept direct donations. To donate, go to this page on our website.

Limitations and caveats for the 2023 stand-alone module

As of January 1st, 2023, we have only a few things scheduled for our Issues in Hospital-based Practice webinar series. This is because 2023 is another year of transition with the 501c3. Our priorities are

  1. to bring in funding to cover our outgoing basic operating costs and
  2. update our tech to help with our current "growing pains" as a nonprofit to meet our community's needs.

Funding to cover basic/essential operating costs and the ability to purchase and update tech are both related to funding. HHP receives funding through website store product sales, product subscriptions (like the webinar series), and direct donations. We are also applying for philanthropic funding (grants) but have not received grant funding yet.

So, your support of the Issues in Hospital-based Practice Webinar Series through either bundle option 1 or option 2 (Tier 2 subscription) helps us toward meeting our funding goals to keep this resource available and get closer to covering our outgoing costs. Thank you for your support.

What you have access to through the 2023 Issues module:

  • Just the items we are able to record or share for 2023. This is expected to be limited. See the above explanation for details.

What you have access to through the Issues Bundle (option 1)-->recommended:

  • 2023 Issues in Hospital-based Practice module
  • 2022 Issues in Hospital-based Practice module
  • 2020-2021 Issues in Hospital-based Practice module
  • Telehealth Roundtable Resource Bundle, based on the HHP's "Telehealth Roundtable" virtual event hosted in June 2020
  • Please see the new "Issues Bundle" for details on what it includes. Again, I recommend subscribing to the bundle, not this stand-alone module, for your best resource access for the price. :)

  • Presentation from the HHP's Employment Practices Workgroup. This is based on the workgroup's work and progress. Presentation for the Issues in HP webinar series is TBA at this time.

**************

Background: "Issues in Hospital-based Practice" is the webinar presentation series I have worked to get off the ground for the past several years.

"Issues in Hospital-based Practice" is a webinar presentation series we have not yet had full funding for (2020 - 2022). As of January 2022, we became part of a 501c3 nonprofit and are working toward the funding of this resource, the Issues online resource. So, if you love this idea, please encourage others to sign up and support this resource. The webinar series is one of the most expensive outgoing costs of the resources we have created at the Hospital Handbook Project.

To be successful in running the Issues series for 2023 and beyond, we need to cover our basic operating costs. Please see this webpage for current information on our "basic operating costs" fundraiser, progress so far, and how you can support it.

Your subscription to this online resource helps us toward our funding goal.

If your organization would like to sponsor The Hospital Handbook Project's work, learn more about that option here.

The community has identified a need for this as an ongoing series this year and in future years. So I hope to get this off the ground this year. And I can do that with your help.

Your support helps us cover the following outgoing costs of running this series.

In late 2022, the current outgoing cost estimate for hosting one session that is 50 minutes or less in time is $600. This includes the costs of hosting the live sessions (platform costs, tech et al), recording the session, running a multi-voice transcript, working with a video editor, hosting the recording, and creating a companion "Notes" document. This cost increases for sessions that go longer than 50 minutes.

Running a professional transcript helps us

  • Improve our communication with our video editor. The transcript gives us accurate timestamps and word tags near edits.
  • Create accurate captions for our recording when we can host it on our YouTube channel
  • Captions improve accessibility for the hearing impaired and for colleagues who are watching recordings with the audio turned off
  • Helps me when I am creating the companion "Notes" document.
    • This feature, the "Notes" document, is much requested by the community. It includes a summary of the most important points in the presentation or discussion, graphics related to the presentation, timestamps with a quick summary of a section, and a list of related resources with hyperlinks.
    • However, it is very time-consuming to create this document. Running a transcript with the recording saves me several hours and helps improve the accuracy of my time stamps.
    • Colleagues have noted that they find the timestamps with summaries in the "Notes" document helpful when they navigate a recording to find a favorite section or an otherwise obscure section they missed during the live session.

Working with a video editor helps us improve the recording:

  • Clean up issues in the recording, especially if there are multiple speakers at different locations.
  • Clean up sound issues. Edits out long pauses or tech issues that detract from the recording.
  • Evens out the sound for ease of listening
  • Adds intro and outro/ending fades and transitions to help it look more professional
  • Stitches together multiple recordings as needed. For example, if 20 minutes of the first part of the session was lost because of connection issues (bad storm, presenter needed to switch devices to improve sound or connection, etc.) with a presenter, we can request the presenter to record themselves presenting that section. Then the video editor can stitch that section together with the cleaner parts of the recording to create one connected recording of the session.
  • A full version of editing is necessary to be able to share recordings on our YouTube channel. Edited recordings may be shared on the YouTube channel for a limited time or a longer period, as determined by the director of The Hospital Handbook Project.

Caveat: We have not yet been able to cover our outgoing costs for the Issues in Hospital-based Practice series. So most of the recordings you have access to through this online module have not been edited by our video editor. And some sessions were available only live, and just have notes or slides of pdfs, but no recording. I've included "notes" and pdfs of slides when available. However, not all recordings are available because we have not had the funding to cover editing costs.

With your support and the support of organizational sponsors, we can work with a video editor for this series in the near future.
